LAWTF AWARDED TWO RETURNING GOVERNMENT GRANTS

The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival is pleased to announce two returning longtime government grantors for the upcoming two-year grant cycles from both the Los Angeles County Arts & Culture (LACAC) and Department of Cultural Affairs, LA (DCA.) These two grants will support LAWTF 27th and 28th Annual Festivals.

Many thanks to both LACAC and DCA for their continued grant awards that began in 1995 and 1997, respectively. LAWTF is exceedingly appreciative!


 
LAWTF CURRENTLY ACCEPTING 2020 PERFORMER SUBMISSIONS



The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival is presently accepting performer submissions for the 2020 Annual Festival through September 30, 2019!

LAWTF PRESENTS ENCORE “LEGENDS, MOVEMENT AND MEMORIES” AT 
GREENWAY COURT THEATRE

By popular demand, LAWTF presented an encore evening of performances for the program “LEGENDS, MOVEMENT AND MEMORIES” on July 20, 2019. This year’s program was offered at the Greenway Court Theatre located at 544 North Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90036. This program was made possible in part from a generous two-year grant cycle award from the City of West Hollywood’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Committee.


The evening was co-hosted by legends Ms. Florence LaRue   (The 5th  Dimension.) and  Ms. Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons and 227

The talented line-up of performers was kicked off by Ms. Florence LaRue singing I Love Being Here With You and later in the evening she sang Remember. 


Ms. Freda Payne (Band of Gold and Bring the Boys Home) reprised her vibrant LAWTF premiere excerpt of her solo show, Ella Fitzgerald First Lady of Song during the second act. She was accompanied by talented Musical Director Rahn Coleman (piano) Quentin Dennard (drums) and Michael Saucier (bass.)
Rounding out the evening were dancer Juli Kim (New Leaf and Five Drum Song) 

and dancer/actor Amy Milano (Dancing With Crazies.)

  
Audience members were captivated by this engaging program.

LAWTF PRESENTS 9th ANNUAL 
CITY OF CULVER CITY PROGRAM 
AT THE IVY SUBSTATION

On June 23, 2019 LAWTF presented its DEFINING MOMENTS program at the Ivy Substation (home of The Actors’ Gang.) located at 9070 Venice Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90232. This year marked the 9th Annual City of Culver City Grant that LAWTF has been awarded to bring its encore performers to residents of Culver City.

LAWTF JOINS THE 10th ANNIVERSARY HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL AS AN AWARD SPONSOR


Diverse Diva Award winner, Cathy Schenkelberg

LAWTF partnered with City National Bank to join the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival (HFF) as an Award Sponsor during the 10th Annual HFF. Cathy Schenkelberg was honored with the LAWTF DIVERSE DIVA AWARD for exemplifying diversity, empowerment and remarkable creativity at the HFF Awards Ceremony that was held on June 30, 2019 at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre located at 1615 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA 90028.

LAWTF PRESENTS ITS 2019 “HOT OFF THE PRESS” PROGRAM

Co-hosted by LAWTF Board members Jessica Lynn Johnson and Juliette Jeffers.

 

LAWTF presented its first 2019HOT OFF THE PRESS”   New Solo Works Series program on May 23, 2019 at the Whitefire Theatre located at 13500 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423.

LAWTF powerful performers for the evening  were Yvette Cason (Real As It Can Be) Alma Collins (Strong Like Honey) and Roxana Ortega (Self-ish) The evening included a robust and thought-provoking post-performance dialogue with the audience.

JULIETTE JEFFERS AGAIN PARTNERED WITH LAWTF TO OFFER MASTER ACTING CLASS



LAWTF Board of Director Juliette Jeffers again partnered with LAWTF to offer her Master Acting Class for solo artists on July 28, 2019 at a private studio in Atwater Village, CA. 

Master Acting Class students, Florence LaRue and Alex Lavelanet. 

Jeffers’ workshop covered such topics as what it takes to create a captivating story, the art of storytelling, getting paid, perseverance, self-producing and other nuggets to further develop the solo show.

One student remarked, Juliette’s Master Class was like a breath of fresh air. The class inspired me to continue on the search for my voice, and gave me tools for its expression.” – Jair Bula
